Breakthrough! BUCEA wins the first prize in the 16th National Structure Design Contest for College Students

From October 25-29, the final round of the 16th National Structure Design Contest for College Students was successfully held. The team from the School of Civil and Transportation Engineering of BUCEA, led by the supervisor, Assoc. Prof. HOU Suwei, and consisting of students CAO Xusen, HUANG Lihong, and YU Qing, won the first prize with the fourth place after 16.5 hours of on-site model-making, presentation, and model loading. BUCEA received the “Excellent Organization Award”. This is the best result achieved by BUCEA in this competition, as well as the highest ranking among all participating universities from Beijing.

The competition was participated by 1,465 teams from 581 universities, the highest ever in history. 119 teams from 118 universities including Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, and Tongji University entered the final round. The competition focused on bridges designed to withstand both moving and impact loads. Undetermined parameters were introduced and participants were required to determine their creation plans on site through analysis and calculation according to the design parameters they were assigned to by drawing lots.

As the hosting unit of Beijing Competition Zone, BUCEA has held Beijing Architectural Structure Design Competition for College Students for 12 sessions in a row, with an annual participation of nearly 2,000 teachers and students from over 20 universities in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, and Shandong. On October 28, BUCEA was invited to attend discussions at the Secretariats’ Meeting of the 2023 National Structure Design Contest for College Students and was awarded “Outstanding Secretariat of the National Structure Design Contest for College Students and Regional Contests”.
