On November 25, the 2023 Beijing International Urban Design Forum officially opened at BUCEA. Themed “Nourished by Cultural Deposits, Empowered by Technology”, the event brought together over 1,000 participants at home and abroad including academicians, experts, scholars, and students in the field of historical and cultural preservation to discuss new pathways and methods for strengthening the preservation and inheritance of historical and cultural heritage in urban and rural development, providing the education and technology talents needed in the field. During the forum, BUCEA and Beijing Institute of Architectural Design unveiled the editorial office of  Archicreation  and released a new issue. The  Beijing Historical Architecture Protection Guidelines: Chaoyang, Haidian, Fengtai, and Shijingshan Districts , co-authored by the Office of Beijing Historic and Cultural City Protection Committee, Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, and BUCEA, was officially launched.

Founded in 2016 by BUCEA, Beijing International Urban Design Forum is one of the largest and most influential annual conferences in the field of urban design worldwide, a landmark academic event with international recognition.

This year’s forum was co-hosted by BUCEA, China Architecture Culture Center, and Beijing Institute of Architectural Design, and organized by Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Future Urban Design, and Institute of Urban Design- Architectural Society of China. The event consisted of an opening ceremony, keynote speeches, eight themed forums, two roundtable discussions, one youth forum, and one high-level dialogue. The online streaming channel has drawn nearly 30,000 participants.

The 2023 BUCEA Urban Design Workshop was opened before the forum, bringing together 36 students from nine universities to design urban renewal proposals for Xisibei Neighborhood under the theme “Revitalizing Hutongs”.
