As the supporter of this event, the BUCEA arranged its International Development Research Institute (IDRI) to organize and curate the Harmony & Beauty: ZHAO Xigang Belt & Road New Paper-cut Art Exhibition as part of the Festival. Since its establishment in July 2020, the IDRI has regarded the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (BRAUIC) as an important platform and channel for the university to implement its internationalization strategy. In March this year, the BUCEA signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation, advancing strategic cooperation based on the principles of “fully-tapped advantages, joint advancement, long-term collaboration, and mutual benefit”. Through international platforms such as UNESCO, we will promote all-round exchanges and cooperation in architecture and related fields. As part of the strategic cooperation, the BUCEA recommended the new paper-cutting art of Professor ZHAO Xigang of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning as a bridge for cultural exchanges with the world.

ZHAO Xigang’s new paper-cutting art combines Chinese freehand style and traditional decorative art with modern design concepts and contemporary art spirit, gradually forming a new paper-cutting style featuring “childlike delight”, “beauty”, “kindness” and “fashion”. Revolving around the four subjects of “Harmonious World”, “Harmonious China”, “The Beauty of Solar Terms”, and “The Harmony and Joy of Dynamism and Stillness”, the exhibition interprets the important role of art and culture in jointly building a community of shared future for mankind through the Belt and Road Initiative. We hope that the Chinese paper-cutting art will connect our hearts and encourage us to jointly create a better future.

During the event, Professor ZHAO Xigang donated a new paper-cut work “Reinvention of the Tang Dynasty painting  Five Oxen by Han Huang: A Willing Ox With Its Head Bowed” as a permanent collection of the Beijing Peace Garden Museum. It symbolizes the pragmatic strategic cooperation between the BUCEA and Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation to create a better future of the international exchanges and cooperation along the Belt and Road.
