On November 23, 2023, Serge Demers, Associate Vice-President of Laurentian University, Canada, led a delegation of four to visit BUCEA and signed an intercollegiate agreement. The event was attended by LI Junqi, Vice President of BUCEA, as well as representatives from the International Development Research Institute, School of Urban Economics and Management, School of Science, School of Environment and Energy Engineering, School of Electrical and Information Engineering, and School of Mechanical-Electronic and Vehicle Engineering of BUCEA.

LI Junqi extended a warm welcome to Vice-President Serge Demers and his delegation. He said that BUCEA attaches great importance to international talent cultivation and scientific research, taking the lead in building the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (BRAUIC), contributing to a Community of Architectural Education Along the Belt and Road through flagship activities including the International Summer School, the Global Campus: Exchange Program for Summer Schools, and the International Student Competition on Digital Architectural Design. It was hoped that the two sides could fully leverage their mutually complementary disciplines and vast potential for collaboration to create a closer, stable, and sustainable partnership in areas of joint student training and education cooperation between China and Canada.

Serge Demers said that the McEwen School of Architecture at Laurentian University is one of the twelve architecture schools in Canada, fully accredited by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board. The school has maintained close ties with the local community, contributing greatly to urban planning and development in the city of Sudbury. He also introduced prominent disciplines such as mining engineering and mechanical engineering, calling for more comprehensive, wide-ranging, and high-level cooperation between the two universities in joint student training in engineering, and research on architectural heritage preservation, etc., with the aim to achieve high-quality mutual development.
