I. Project Introduction:

In order to enrich the students’ summer study and life, and highlight the professional characteristics of architecture colleges, the 2020 online International Summer School of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture will be held from August 3 to 7, 2020.During the special period of the epidemic, the International Summer School will be held in the form of academic lectures (live broadcast), online seminars and exchanges. With its rich contents covering architecture, civil engineering, environmental engineering and other fields, the school will help the outstanding college students understand the development frontier hot spots of relevant disciplines, and carry out the popularization and exchange of relevant knowledge. Mainly include:

(1) Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture integrated into the world. Promote the courses of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture’s advantageous disciplines to the world, as well as introduce foreign advanced courses into Beijing Architecture University. In this process, students participating in the international summer school will communicate and learn with each other free of charge through the whole network.

(2) Well-designed courses and teachers. Academic lectures will be given by high-level talents from excellent universities around the world based on our school’s leading majors in architecture and civil engineering and other specialties in the forefront of our country to explain the topics that students are interested in and generally concerned about, creating a wise and cutting-edge academic atmosphere.

(3) Innovative education mode. We apply the teaching methods of the world first-class universities in the summer school classes so as to improve students’ online classroom participation, creative thinking and independent research capabilities, as well as increase opportunities of cross-professional and cross-disciplinary learning for students. On the basis of online academic lectures, Chinese and foreign students will be integrated and conduct group discussions, focusing on topics such as human and nature, urban sustainable development, urban design and management in the context of epidemic prevention and control, resumption of work and production in the context of normalized epidemic prevention and control, diversified architectural culture and transnational exchanges.

(4) The “world stage” of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Make the International Summer School a platform for international cooperation and exchanges, and strive to promote our school’s outstanding academic research results to the world.

II. Performance and fee regulations:

(1) Result verification:

Having participated in and passed all the courses (including academic lectures, group discussions and graduation thesis) of International Summer School, the students of our school will get 2 credits of common optional courses (general optional) of our school, and can also acquire the graduation certificate jointly issued by General Higher Education Committee of China Construction Education Association, the Institute of international development of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (International Education College) and the Office of Academic Affairs.

(II) Expenditures:

This online summer school implements the whole network free system.

III. Qualifications and course selection range:

Courses are taught for undergraduates and international students of our school and undergraduates of “Outstanding Engineer Education Alliance for Civil Engineering” universities and overseas universities. Courses are taught in English in International Summer School. Students who take the course should have strong English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, and the ability to learn and communicate in English.

Each school takes charge of student registration. The number of the participants from the School of Architecture, School of Civil Engineering, and School of Environmental Energy should be no less than 20; from the School of Telecommunications, School of Economics and Management, School of Surveying and Mapping, School of Mechanical and Electrical, and School of Science no less than 10.

Each college selects 1-2 students with outstanding comprehensive ability and English language ability and sense of volunteer service as volunteers.
