Civil & Transportation Engineering

Overview

The School of Civil and Transportation Engineering originated from the Carpentry Department of Capital Elementary Industrial School in 1907. Civil engineering started as a major since 1936. Now the school offers three undergraduate majors in civil engineering, transportation engineering and intelligent construction; three disciplines are authorized to offer master degree programs in civil engineering, transportation engineering and hydraulic engineering; one discipline is authorized to offer doctoral degree program; as well as a postdoctoral research exchange station in civil engineering. An integral talent cultivation system of undergraduate-master-doctoral-postdoctoral has been established. The civil engineering major was awarded the national characteristic major in 2009, the national first-class professional construction program in 2019, and the first-class major in key construction of colleges in Beijing. The school passed through the national college professional evaluation and re-evaluation for three times in 2006, 2011 and 2016, respectively. The major of civil engineering was ranked as the key construction discipline of Beijing in 2008 and was approved as the high-grade discipline in colleges of Beijing in 2019.

The school has five Scientific Research and Innovation Teams of the State Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipal City, and the Experimental Centers of Institutions of colleges in Beijing, including the National Engineering Practice Education Center, the "Great Civil Engineering and Underground Construction Engineering Innovation". The school is equipped with internationally leading experimental equipment, such as a 5m×5m multi-functional vibration array of 3-dimention with 6-degree of freedom, an 8m×5m×4m loading equipment of underground engineering for reinforcement and excavation, and a 12m×10m large-scale spherical self-balancing loading device. In recent years, the school has won more than 50 awards, including two first-class prizes and eight second-class prizes of the National Science and Technology Development Award. At present, more than 40 national projects are being undertaken, including the national key research and development projects and the national natural science foundation projects.

There are 90 full-time staff members in the school, including 28 professors and 38 associate professors. More than 2, 000 students are being educated in the school, including 1, 515 undergraduates, and 497 postgraduate students.
