As May 18 marked the 46th International Museum Day, the “Gorgeous Decoration: Exhibition on the Decorative Painting Skills of Traditional Architecture”, which was co-hosted by the Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Beijing Landscape and Traditional Chinese Architectural Engineering Co., Ltd., a unit for the protection of national intangible cultural heritage, held its opening ceremony online through the official accounts of the Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture in Kuaishou, TikTok and Sina Weibo.
At the exhibition, there are over 200 exhibits throughout the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties and the contemporary times, including freehand samples of decorative paintings and frottages of originals by inheritors and BUCEA faculty and students, models of the architectural components from the Republic of China era, fragments of architectural decorative paintings during the restoration of cultural relics, self-made tools by inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, etc. These exhibits intensively presented the historical development of the composition, decoration and color, as well as the key techniques, of decorative painting.
