On May 5, ZHANGDayu, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and President of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA), was invited to attend the 65th Anniversary Celebration of Anhui Jianzhu University and the High-Level Application-OrientedUniversities’ High-Quality Development Forum. YANGJianwei, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Committee and Vice President of BUCEA, and head of the Graduate School attended the forum together. At the forum, ZHANGDayu delivered a speech on behalf of architectural universities, and made a keynote speech on the topic of “Building the Advantages of Distinctive Disciplines, Serving Economic and Social Development,and Striving to Write a New Chapter in the Construction of High-level Distinctive Universities”.

In his speech, ZHANG congratulated Anhui Jianzhu University on its 65th anniversary on behalf of BUCEA. Facing the new era and new journey, it is hoped that architectural colleges and universities will further strengthen communication and cooperation, make concerted efforts to open up new chapters, jointly promote the innovative development, characteristic development and connotative development of disciplines and majors, and make new and greater contributions to the development of China’s higher education and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

In the keynote speech, ZHANG focused on the forum theme of “New Situation of China’sArchitectureIndustry Transformation and Upgrading, and Improving the Development of Disciplines and Specialties”, briefly introduced the history, overview, positioning, and guidelines of the university, and shared the exploration and practice of BUCEA in stimulating the dynamics of scientific and technological innovation by deepening the reform of institutional mechanism, fostering higher-caliber faculty, and building new research and development institutions, etc. ZHANG pointed out that the university insisted on implementing the important instructions of General Secretary XI Jinping as a guide, fulfilled the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, constantly strengthened the advantages of disciplines and specialties, focused on cultivating top-notch innovative talents and building a characteristic innovation ecosystem, connected the chain of the industry, education, research and application, and precisely matched the major needs of the country and the capital Beijing.Through typical projects such as the restoration of Tian’anmenRostrum and its tower, the Great Wall cultural inheritance, the “Small Space, Big Life”—residential area microspace transformation project and Sino-Dutch R & D Center on Future Wastewater Treatment Technologies, BUCEA has injected the university’s science and technology innovation momentum into the industrial development and made positive contributions to serving the national and capital economic and social development.

The forum also invited LIUJiaping, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, YUShuhong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and YANGBaojun, Chief Economist of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development to give keynote speeches respectively.
