YIN reviewing BUCEA’s achievements in serving the capital’s development

BUCEA is a multidisciplinary university with distinctive strengths in architecture and engineering. Over the years, it has cultivated a large number of outstanding professionals for Beijing’s urban planning, construction and management. At the Daxing campus, YIN Li reviewed exhibits on the institution’s history and its contributions to Beijing’s development. He also visited the Key Laboratory of Urban Stormwater System and Water Environment of the Ministry of Education and the Multi-functional Shaking Table Matrix Laboratory. There, he examined research achievements in urban flooding risk prevention and control, functional materials for water environments, seismic resilience of buildings, and structural stability enhancement of historic architecture. YIN Li also learned about BUCEA’s efforts to support sponge city development, strengthen disaster prevention, mitigation, relief and emergency response capabilities, serve major engineering projects through seismic disaster reduction technologies, and contribute to resilient city development.

YIN Li urged that BUCEA’s development should stay closely connected with the progress of the times, urban development, and people’s needs. He encouraged that BUCEA should leverage its strengths in architectural disciplines, focusing on fields such as refined urban governance, transportation system planning, urban renewal, underground pipe network upgrades, and rural development. He also called for breakthroughs in core technologies and equipment to generate pioneering and innovative achievements, thereby helping Beijing advance the construction of a “people’s city” to the highest standard.

During the visit, YIN Li noted that Beijing’s urban planning, construction and management require stronger intellectual and talent support from BUCEA. He emphasized that, on the new journey ahead, BUCEA should continue to enhance its distinctive educational strengths, benchmark itself against the requirements of the new round of the “Double First-Class” initiative, further strengthen its traditional areas of excellence such as architecture and civil engineering, and strive to develop nationally leading disciplines. Focusing on the capital’s functional positioning and the needs of modern urban development, BUCEA should dynamically optimize and adjust its disciplinary and academic program offerings, while making forward-looking plans for emerging and interdisciplinary fields such as intelligent construction, low-altitude technology and engineering. It should also integrate its research resources and take an active role in leading major national science and technology projects as well as projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

YIN Li emphasized that BUCEA should focus on its distinctive strengths and key disciplines, and continuously enhance its capacity to provide professional and technical support. Efforts should be made to develop the National Center for Technology Innovation in Architectural Heritage, thereby strengthening the technological foundation for preserving and carrying forward historical and cultural heritage. BUCEA should also provide reliable technical solutions in areas such as flood control and drainage infrastructure planning, as well as groundwater monitoring and early warning systems, to support improvements in disaster prevention, mitigation and relief capabilities. BUCEA should make full use of urban governance application scenarios and vigorously promote the development and application of new technologies, including virtual construction, intelligent operation and maintenance, and digital diagnostics for cities. It should also work to improve the quality of independent talent cultivation by deepening cooperation with research institutions and leading enterprises, while advancing the development of educational platforms such as the School of Future Architecture and Technology, the BUCEA Academy of Engineering Excellence, and the School of New Energy Technology and Modern Industry. Emphasizing practical education, BUCEA should encourage faculty members and students to join the teams of community planning consultants, architects and horticulturists, and actively participate in key projects such as the renovation of aging residential communities, the revitalization of industrial heritage sites, and the enhancement of rural landscapes. Through hands-on experience at the grassroots level, they can develop their capabilities and professional skills, and truly conduct research that serve the capital’s needs.

YIN Li emphasized the need to further strengthen BUCEA’s own development. BUCEA should uphold XI Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as the guiding principle for fostering students’ development and build a distinctive brand of “Big Ideological and Political Education.” It should uphold and improve the system of principal responsibility under the leadership of the CPC committee, ensuring that CPC leadership is incorporated in all aspects and stages of university governance and administration.

Taking the implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan as an opportunity, BUCEA should deepen reforms in its institutional mechanisms and development model. Efforts should also be made to strengthen the teaching faculty and foster a first-class professional and ethical culture among educators. BUCEA should continue to advance full and rigorous CPC self-governance, carry out educational initiatives on establishing and practicing a correct view of political achievements, and cultivate a clean and upright political environment.

Municipal leaders ZHAO Lei, YU Yingjie and MU Peng also participated in the visit.
