On January 11-12, 2025, ZHAO Xi, Deputy Director of the Department of External Affairs and Associate Professor at the School of Civil and Transportation Engineering, and ZHENG Liang, a 2022 graduate student from the School of Civil and Transportation Engineering, were invited to attend the 3rd ASCE Greater China Conference. Respectively, they received the “Outstanding Student Chapter Faculty Advisor Award” and the “Outstanding Student Leadership Award” from the ASCE Greater China Section.

The conference was organized by the ASCE Greater China Section, hosted by Guangxi University, Tsinghua University among other institutions, and supported by the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Tongji University, etc. Participants included over 150 experts and scholars such as NIE Jianguo, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Ahsan KAREEM, Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; and April J. LANDER, ASCE Region 10 Director.

The ASCE Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) Student Chapter received the “Outstanding Student Chapter Faculty Advisor Award” and the “Outstanding Student Leadership Award”, a recognition of its exceptional contributions over the past year. This is the first time for BUCEA faculty and students to receive these honors, reflecting the growing visibility and contributions of our university in international academic organizations.

About ASCE
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), founded in 1852, is one of the most prestigious civil engineering organizations in the world, representing over 160,000 engineers, experts, scholars and researchers from over 170 countries and regions. Its mission is to lead the sustainable development of the civil engineering profession and ensure the harmonious coexistence of the engineered and natural systems.
The ASCE Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) Student Chapter was established in September 2022. In just over two years, it has grown into a significant student-led international academic organization. Since its founding, the chapter has hosted nine academic salons and six English Corner events, reaching over 500 students.
The chapter members have represented the university in various international competitions and academic exchanges, achieving notable success. In May 2023, PENG Zhongying won the third prize in the inaugural ASCE Greater China Student Symposium Paper Competition. In August 2023, FAN Kai and others participated in “The Future of Sustainable Building: Innovation and Collaboration” Global Project-Based Learning at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember in Indonesia, winning the first and third place. In May 2024, GUO Mingzhi received the Merit Award in the 2nd ASCE Greater China Student Symposium Paper Competition.
