He said that the 2021 International Student Competition on Architectural Design and Digital Modelling, as indicated by its theme “Resilience: To Recreate the Glamour of Canals”, centered around the restoration and sustainable development of the historic canal towns along the Belt and Road. The competition covered three categories: 1) architectural design; 2) structural design, and 3) building and space 3D modelling. It also came with the International Photography Competition on Historic Canal Towns Along the Belt and Road. Despite the impact of COVID-19, the competition has attracted more than 500 teachers and students from 34 universities in 13 countries. Of particular note is that BUCEA won a first prize and five third prizes thanks to the earnest organization and preparation of teachers and students from School of Architecture and Urban Planning, School of Civil and Transportation Engineering, and School of Geomatics and Urban Spatial Informatics. This exhibition displayed 66 works collected in the competition, including 28 works on architectural design, 21 works on structural design, and 17 works on building and space 3D modelling, which was a feast of images and ideas for visitors.
As a side event of the 2021 International Student Competition on Architectural Design and Digital Modelling, the International Photography Competition on Historic Canal Towns Along the Belt and Road: Light and Shadows in Ancient Water Towns by the Canal, carried on the theme of “the Canal” and focused on capturing the characteristic architecture, geographical landscape and cultural features of the historic canal towns along the Belt and Road. The competition has received 190 photography works at home and abroad submitted by 70 photographers. After primary selection and expert evaluation, 20 award-winning works were selected to be displayed in the exhibition.
China-CEEC Architecture New Paper-cut Art Exhibition mainly displayed 17 modern paper cuttings by Professor ZHAO Xigang from School of Architecture and Urban Planning, presenting the landmark buildings in China and 16 Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs). These works served as a window into the cultural connotation, historical features and architectural styles of different countries and highlighted the important role of art and culture in deepening China-CEEC cooperation and building a community with a shared future for mankind. It is hoped that Chinese paper cutting art can act as a bridge for us to enhance China-CEEC friendship and work together for a better future.
After the opening ceremony, the participants visited the exhibition together.
The exhibition is held both online and offline. The offline exhibition is set up in Luban Square at the Daxing Campus and the square in front of the Lecture Building No. 2 at the Xicheng Campus.
