BUCEA approved of the Beijing Engineering Research Center for Urban Infrastructure and Green and Low-Carbon Building Technology

On November 23, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) was officially approved by the Beijing Commission of Municipal Development and Reform to lead the construction of the Beijing Engineering Research Center for Urban Infrastructure and Green and Low-carbon Building Technology. The center is the first scientific research platform of BUCEA approved by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, representing another milestone for carbon-neutral technological innovation of BUCEA. As the only university-led one among the first batch of 26 centers approved after Beijing reformed its management system of engineering research centers, the center is also the first one headed by a municipal-level university since 2011 when Beijing started the layout of engineering research centers.

The center, led by BUCEA, will be co-constructed by PAN-CHINA Construction Group Co., Ltd. and Beijing BUCEA Science Park Development Co., Ltd. in close collaboration with leading enterprises and research institutes in the sector. Through multi-agent and multi-disciplinary joint innovation, it focuses on three key vertical core technologies: 1) clean development and efficient utilization for building energy; 2) urban rain and wastewater control and utilization and carbon reduction technology; and 3) solid waste resource recovery, and durable low-carbon road technology. All aim to improve the level of intelligent monitoring of greenhouse gases and thus form the overall technical architecture layout, which refers to “three sides and one level.” Superior resources will be pooled to accelerate breakthroughs in key technologies and the commercialization of core achievements from multiple dimensions, including technologies, processes, materials, components, equipment, systems, standards, and plans. Integrated development of innovation and industrial chains will be improved for green transformation, upgrading and independent control of the industrial chain, and contribute to achieving the important goal of enabling Beijing to become the first city in China to peak carbon emission and achieve carbon neutrality.

It is reported that Beijing Engineering Research Centers are research and development entities organized by the Beijing Commission of Municipal Development and Reform, deployed under major national strategies in response to the needs of key projects and innovative development of key industries in Beijing. And it serves to fully leverage technology and talent advantages for precise matchmaking throughout the innovation and industrial chains. The enterprises, universities and scientific research institutes with excellent R&D and comprehensive strengths are the core members. This April, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform entered into organizing the application of the first batch of Beijing Engineering Research Centers after launching the reforms in new-generation information technology, medicine and health, green and low-carbon technologies.
