On October 16-18, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) hosted a series of successful events for its 2024 International Exchange and Cooperation Day.
International Cooperation Signing Ceremony
On the morning of October 18, the International Cooperation Signing Ceremony was held at the Daxing Campus courtyard. Attendees included the BUCEA leadership, ZHENG Yu, ZHANG Dayu, WANG Yiming, CHEN Hongbing, YANG Jianwei, and ZHU Jing, along with representatives from relevant departments and schools. 33 presidents and representatives from 14 universities in 11 countries, including Addis Ababa Science and Technology University in Ethiopia, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, Industrial UniversityofTyumen in Russia, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember in Indonesia, Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Kazakhstan, Moscow Institute of Architecture (State Academy) in Russia, Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, Samarkand State University of Architecture and Construction in Uzbekistan, University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Bulgaria, University of Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina, University of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, University of Novi Sad in Serbia, University of South Wales in the UK, and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman in Malaysia. The ceremony was presided over by YANG Jianwei, Vice President of BUCEA.
Address by ZHENG Yu, Secretary of the CPC Committee of BUCEA
ZHENG Yu, Secretary of the CPC Committee of BUCEA, warmly welcomed the attending presidents, professors, and friends in his welcome address. He highlighted BUCEA’s efforts and achievements in responding to the Belt and Road Initiative and building a community with a shared future for mankind. ZHENG also shared BUCEA’s major progress in recent years achieved in the development of the BRAUIC, the establishment of international innovation platforms, international research collaborations, and the cultivation of global talents.
Signing cooperation agreements and launching projects
On behalf of BUCEA, President ZHANG Dayu signed MoU with the Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering and with Samarkand State University of Architecture and Construction in Uzbekistan. An international research cooperation agreement was signed with the University of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A cooperation agreement on targeted training of international students was signed with Addis Ababa Science and Technology University in Ethiopia. Student exchange agreements were established with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman in Malaysia and the University of Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A flag was presented to the Faculty and Student Exchange Program from the University of Novi Sad in Serbia.

Following the signing ceremony, the Work Exhibition of the 2024 Belt and Road International Student Competition on Digital Architectural Design officially kicked off.
Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony was attended by presidents and representatives from various universities, including Margarita IMANDOSSOVA, Rector of Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering; Canbay Turkyilmaz CIGDEM, Rector of Samarkand State University of Architecture and Construction; Zoran TOMIĆ, Rector of the University of Mostar; Abraham Debebe WOLDEYOHANNES, Vice President of Addis Ababa Science and Technology University; and GOI Bok Min, Vice President of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman; alongside ZHENG Yu, Secretary of the CPC Committee of BUCEA; and ZHANG Dayu, BUCEA President.
YANG Jianwei gave an introduction of this year’s competition. A total of 347 works were submitted, with participation from over 1,700 faculty and students from 79 universities across 11 countries and regions. Over five years of exploration and development, this competition has become a significant platform for academic and cultural exchange among university students across the globe.
Maria GAIDUK, Vice Dean of the Architectural Design Institute at Industrial University of Tyumen, Russia; and LI Jian, a master’s student from BUCEA, shared their experiences and gains from participating in the competition on behalf of award-winning teachers and students, respectively.
After the opening ceremony, the guests toured the research platform and campus facilities at BUCEA.
On October 17, President ZHANG Dayu and Vice President YANG Jianwei met with Rector CIGDEM and her delegation from Samarkand State University of Architecture and Construction in Uzbekistan; Rector IMANDOSSOVA and her delegation from Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Kazakhstan; Vice President WOLDEYOHANNES from Addis Ababa Science and Technology University in Ethiopia; and Vice President GOI Bok Min from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman in Malaysia.
A series of activities held during the International Exchange and Cooperation Day also provided a platform for collaboration with various BUCEA schools.
Representatives from the BUCEA School of Architecture and Urban Planning attended discussions with those from Industrial University of Tyumen in Russia, the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences in Russia, and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece.
BUCEA School of Civil and Transportation Engineering held an international cooperation meeting with representatives from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember in Indonesia, the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Bulgaria, the University of Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Samarkand State University of Architecture and Construction in Uzbekistan.
BUCEA School of Electrical and Information Engineering engaged in discussions with Shane GALVIN, Representative from the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science at the University of South Wales in the UK.
BUCEA School of Urban Economics and Management discussed cooperation with the Vice President GOI Bok Min from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman in Malaysia.
BUCEA School of Science discussed cooperation with the Rector from Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Kazakhstan.
Over three days, the 2024 BUCEA International Exchange and Cooperation Day focused on deepening ties with our overseas partners and promoting international academic exchange, research cooperation, and global talent development in architecture and engineering. The event has paved the way for further expanding global partnerships and fostering innovation and cooperation in international education.
