China Engineering Education Accreditation Association and the Higher Education Evaluation Center of the Ministry of Education recently announced the results of the 2023 engineering education accreditation. According to the announcement, BUCEA’s civil engineering and vehicle engineering programs have passed the certification, which is valid from January 2023 to December 2028 (conditionally). This is the second time that the civil engineering program has achieved the certification, with the previous certification obtained in May 2016. So far, a total of 6 programs at BUCEA have received the accreditation, including civil engineering, vehicle engineering, surveying and mapping engineering, remote sensing science and technology, transportation engineering, and environmental engineering.
BUCEA’s civil engineering program was established in 1979 and was recognized as the Beijing Municipal Characteristic Major in 2008 and the National Characteristic Major in 2009. It has been included in the “Excellent Engineer Training Program” and the pilot scheme for comprehensive reform of municipal colleges and universities in Beijing since 2012. In 2019, the major was awarded the national first-class professional construction program.
The vehicle engineering program at BUCEA was established in 2011. It was recognized as a Beijing first-class major in 2019 and a national first-class major in 2020. The major started offering second bachelor’s degrees in 2021.
Obtaining the engineering education accreditation indicates that the two programs have attained substantial equivalence internationally and have joined the top tier of global engineering education. This achievement provides a solid foundation for BUCEA to cultivate engineers with international perspectives and transnational professional qualifications. During the 6-year validity period of the certification, degrees obtained by graduates will be recognized by all member countries of the Washington Accord.
