On May 17, BUCEA held a seminar on the protection, inheritance, and utilization of the Great Wall heritage to study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s reply three days earlier to the residents of Shixia Village at the foot of the Badaling Great Wall, in which he expounded the unique value of the Great Wall and the significance of safeguarding it.

ZHENG Yu, Secretary of CPC Committee of BUCEA, WANG Yiming, Deputy Secretary, and representatives of the teachers and students of the University attended the meeting. LIU Haining, Deputy Director of the Archaeological Department of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics and other representatives were invited to the seminar. The seminar was chaired by Secretary ZHENG Yu.

ZHENG Yu conveyed the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s reply to the residents at the foot of the Badaling Great Wall and the gist of the meeting of the Standing Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Party Committee. For years, teams of BUCEA teachers and student have conducted research and practice on the protection and utilization of the Great Wall in China and in Beijing particularly, the construction of the Great Wall National Cultural Park, the protection and development of the Great Wall Cultural Belt, and personnel training for protecting the Great Wall. These teams have conducted basic research on the protection of the Great Wall in Shixia Village, and participated in research with social organizations. He emphasized the need to focus on the protection, inheritance, and utilization of the Great Wall heritage, and to concentrate our strengths to create a high-level technological innovation platform in architectural heritage protection.

He stressed that BUCEA needs to strengthen in-depth cooperation with organizations including Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics. It is also necessary to deepen the reform of talent cultivation models to facilitate architectural heritage protection.

LIU Haining, Deputy Director of the Archaeological Department of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics, expressed his gratitude to BUCEA. He said that BUCEA boasts prominent advantages in protecting ancient buildings, and has done a lot of work in resource investigation, planning and marking, safety monitoring, and the protection and repair of the Great Wall, making outstanding contributions to the Great Wall protection. He hopes that BUCEA will continue to leverage its disciplinary and professional advantages, continue to do well in the protection, inheritance, and utilization of the Great Wall heritage for common good, and establish its reputation as a paragon in Great Wall protection among universities in Beijing.

Representative of Badaling Town, Yanqing District, Beijing introduced the basics of the Great Wall protection carried out by BUCEA.

Professor TANG Yuyang introduced the series of achievements made by BUCEA team in the protection, inheritance, and utilization of the Great Wall heritage.
