Professor MU Jun’s team wins UIA Award for Innovation in Architectural Education

On July 6, 2023, the 28th World Congress of Architects, organized by the International Union of Architects (UIA), held its award ceremony in Copenhagen, Denmark. Professor MU Jun’s team with BUCEA was honored with the UIA Award for Innovation in Architectural Education.

Established in 1948, the UIA is the only global organization representing architects worldwide. UIA’s World Congress of Architects, organized every three years, is the highest-level international conference in the field of architecture.

Since 2011, under the guidance of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Professor MU Jun’s team has focused on researching innovative traditional construction methods and green buildings. Their work aligns perfectly with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Its teaching and research efforts in this area have also received support from the Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation.

The Jury of the Congress, led by Martha THORNE, Executive Director of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, has bestowed high praise upon BUCEA’s team, “With a very sound pedagogical approach, the programme engages with a variety of players coming from different backgrounds and disciplines to work directly with the villagers where everyone learns.”

During this Congress, the team led by OUYANG Wen from BUCEA’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning also obtained the second place in the UIA International Student Competition in Architecture Design.
