The 2021 annual meeting of the Institute of Urban Design of Architectural Society of China (ASC) and the ASC Urban Design Forum were successfully held in Tongji University. BUCEA’s Advanced Innovation Center for Future Urban Design, as the Secretariat of the Institute of Urban Design, ASC, organized the conference, which was undertaken by the College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University and the Urban Design and Planning Committee, Architectural Society of Shanghai China (ASSC). The Tongji Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd. (TJAD) jointly organized the meeting. The annual meeting comprises three parts, namely, council meeting, academic forum, and academic evaluation.

On May 29, the fourth plenary session of the first council of the Institute of Urban Design, ASC was held synchronously online and offline, with more than 90 members present in the meeting. On May 30, over 100 urban design experts and scholars from universities, design institutions, and industry organizations all around the country gathered for the academic forum under the theme of  Traditions and Challenges . This academic conference fell into two sessions: the academic lectures and the urban design education subforum.

This year’s forum invited a stellar panel of experts who engaged in a spirited discussion. The expert group includes Prof. ZHANG Jie, National Survey and Design Master, Dean of School of Architecture and Urban Planning, BUCEA, and Professor of Architecture and School of Architecture, Tsinghua University; Prof. KONG Yuhang, Dean of School of Architecture, Tianjin University; Prof. WU Jiang, former Executive Vice President of Tongji University, and current Academician of the Academie d’Architecture, France; Prof. WANG Lin of the School of Design, Shanghai Jiaotong University; JIN Shan, Senior Engineer of Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Research Institute and other scholars and experts.
